Let Nearpod Spice Up Your Classroom

Hey! It's been quite a while since I wrote another post. With my new discoveries of various learning applications, I have also tried implementing it in my teaching demonstrations. How did it turn out? Let's say that I successfully creating a fun classroom atmosphere. Hope you have all been helped with my blog posts too!

Today, I will further explain one of the tools I have previously mentioned: Nearpod. If you haven't watched my friends' presentation about it, you can watch it here.

What is Nearpod?

Compared to the other tools I have mentioned, it can be said that Nearpod is a all-in-one tool. With Nearpod, we can create educational videos and interactive slides which can be incorporated into a single document containing quizzes and mini games. Therefore, the slides are more interactive to use in the classroom, making it perfect to engage students in their remote learning, especially when asking students to study asynchronously. In this post, I will show you how to make these interactive slides and what features you can utilize.

How do I create interactive slides with Nearpod?

1. Go to nearpod.com and sign up if you haven't.
2. Click the Create button and select Lessons.
3. Here is your blank canvas. You can add slides and interactive content using Add Content & Activities.
4. As you can see, there are various option which you can add to your lesson.

You can mix and match these content in your lesson. Be sure to try each one, experiment, and see which one suits your idea best. Personally, an activity you should try is Time to Climb, where students have to race by answering questions as fast and as correct as possible. As you can see below, I have previously made my own Nearpod lesson.

5. After you are satisfied with your product, you can click Preview to check everything one last time and know how students would view your lesson, or directly Save & Exit.
6. After you saved it, you should be redirected to the home screen. To use your lesson, you can use 3 sharing options. This means you can decide whether you want the lesson to be used in synchronous or asynchronous session. Be sure to remember that the code you get when you share the lesson to students will only be available for a specific period of time.
You can also share this to teachers, or modify it in other ways by clicking the three dots on the top right corner. However, note that if you wish to export it to PDF, the interactive activities such as audio files, quiz, open-ended question, and others cannot be played.

Exploring all of Nearpod lesson's features takes time, but I am sure that you will be amazed at what this tool is capable of once you got the hang of it. Check out this lesson that I made: https://share.nearpod.com/tr19IXwOIeb
You can use it as a reference to start using the tool, or make a better version of it! Let me know some suggestions on how to use the tool in the comments below.
