Stay Connected, Organized, and Inspired with Edmodo

Hello guys! Yes, I am back after a relaxing one-week Eid Mubarak holiday. I hope all of my readers who celebrate also had a wonderful celebration. Now that I am refreshed, it's time to dig into another technological tool, specifically a quite popular LMS: Edmodo.

Actually, Edmodo has been around for a long time; since 2008, to be exact. It is one of the pioneers of LMSs, yet it wasn't exactly well-known back then. However, it has improved over time, and it's such a user-friendly LMS to work with. Plus, Edmodo comes with a prettier look!

It went from this:

to this:
What a transformation, am I right?
To see more of Edmodo's improvements, take a look at this video.

What is Edmodo?
As I have mention, Edmodo is a Learning Management System, which main function is to organize learning and teaching activities better, either for students, teachers, or parents. It makes it easier to conduct lessons, save materials, and make quizzes and assignments, especially during online learning.

Edmodo has 3 main features:
1. Posts and messages: Teachers can communicate and engage with their students and vice versa by posting and commenting on those posts. In addition, direct messaging feature is also available.

2. Create lessons: Teachers can create lessons, assignments, and make quizzes for students to work on. It can directly be graded and teachers can set an agenda too.

3. Discover lessons: Teachers can explore lessons made by other creators and use them as inspiration or reference.

How do you use Edmodo?
Now that you have seen the features, in this post, I will explain about how you can create a class using Edmodo.

1. Create an account as a Teacher. You can sync it with your G-mail, Microsoft, or Apple.
2. Once you are in, create a class by selecting Classes, then Create New Class.

4. You can basically add almost anything to your lesson, so let's start with a simple hello for your students. You can use the post feature by clicking this:

After that, a menu like this will appear:

As you can see, you can add pictures, customize the text features, insert links, audio, and share a folder you have made in Edmodo. Students can also comment on this post later on.

5. Now, let's create an assignment. On top of the screen, you should see a Create button. Once you move your cursor there, you should see two options: Assignment and Quiz. For now, we will click on the New button on the Assignment section.

6. This is how the display should look like; very simple, right? You just have to type in the assignment description and insert links or perhaps files to support it. You can also set the due date and lock the assignment after the date. When you are done, click Assign to post the assignment.

7. After assigning a task, giving a quiz will strengthen students' knowledge of the material, so let's make one. Again, after selecting the Create option, choose the New option in the Quiz. Here's what the menu should look like. First, you can fill in the quiz details, then move on to the questions.
In this section, you can choose more than one type of item for your quiz, and can assign grades for each question. Again, there are also options to add files or links.

8. After you assigned everything, your class is ready to be launched. Click on the class code at the front page, then you should get a link or a code for students to join.

Very easy, is it not? Of course it is! Navigating through Edmodo is effortless and your students should also learn new lessons with ease. After creating your own class, teachers all around the world can also see what you have made because Edmodo realizes how important community is, so they added a special feature to explore other classes; but that's for you to explore on your own!
